One Toyota Hilux Raider, African Renaissance, is running entirely on high-performing, ultraclean synthetic diesel fuel, made with the world’s leading gas-to-liquids (GTL) technology.

Along with the GTL-fuelled African Renaissance, the Sasol Chevron GTL Challenge includes four other conventional diesel-fuelled Toyota vehicles, also given names for the journey. All inspired by wildlife, they include Oryx, an antelope found in Africa - and the name given to the GTL plant; Ingulule, the Zulu word for cheetah; Nkonkoni, meaning wildebeest - otherwise known as the gnu - and Indlovu, elephant.
